Greetings Everyone,
Hope y’all are doing finer than frog hair! We’re starting to finally get back into our long-lost summer rain patterns. Seems like the past few years have been hit and miss but lately, we’ve been lucky enough to get our share of it; a little too much for some areas! There’re some areas that have had extreme flooding; hopefully not you!
Well, it’s been a long, hot summer and with all the big Oldsmobile events happening as well as other big shows wrapping up, we were able to round up all the members of the Board last week. We got right down to business.
The first order of Business was to finalize our September Club Meeting. As was mentioned in last month’s newsletter, we will be Meeting on Saturday, September 21st in Plant City for the Strawberry Classic Cruise-In! This is always a fun get together. Let’s plan on meeting at The Whistle Stop Café which is located at 102 S. Collins St., Plant City. For those not familiar with the location, it’s right smack dab in the middle of where the show is being held! Meet at the restaurant at 1:00. The Whistle Stop has an area of the restaurant where we may be able to meet as somewhat of a group. They’ve been closed for vacation and remodeling, but are supposed to be open again the first week in September. We also will have our Club Meeting at the Café after lunch. By the time we’re done, the car show should be humming; it starts at 3:00. Let’s try to park together as a group, if we can. Please display you’re Olds Club laminated signs in your windshield—if you’ve got one! It’s a free show with Award of Excellence trophies awarded. So…shine those baby’s up! Let’s try to have a big group and a big time! Mark your calendars! Saturday September 21st at 1:00! Hope to see you there!
Next order of business was the 46th Annual BOPC Show on October 26th. This is our BIG Charity Show to benefit The Florida Sherrif’s Youth Ranch and the Auburndale FFA (Future Farmers of America). We look forward to having a record number of participants this year so we can write a nice fat check to the Youth Ranch! Every little bit we can do will help benefit the Kids. As usual, we are asking for volunteers…. We need help parking cars, registration, 50/50 sales and other miscellaneous duties, please help. I’ve been burning up the phone lines getting sponsorship donations for door prizes, and on 8-28 Pat Higgins, George Maniates and I are head to Auburndale to pick up items from 7 committed businesses and visit others for further support. It’s a lot of work but it’s for a good cause! The DJ has been scheduled as well as the food truck. I’ve also reached out to a desert truck as well and waiting for a response. Pat Whissel has been busy with the t-shirt order, dash cards and other necessities and Kerry Berman has mailed out several dozen letters to past and hopefully future sponsors as well as processing registrations etc… The Show is 2 months away and we already have around 40 cars registered!! If you have an item that you can donate for the Raffle—new, vintage or gently loved, please contact any officer.
Let’s make this Show our BEST Show.
On another note, we will soon be having our election of officers in December. I’ve been President for the last 3 years and as of late have had some health issues and would like to take the next year off. I get little feedback and it makes me wonder if I’m failing the Members. I will still participate in Club functions and volunteer to help when help is needed, but I would like someone to step up next year and help this club grow and breathe some new life and ideas for the good of our Membership.
That’s about all I have this month. I’ll be glad to have some OCF Meetings so there is more to talk about. Hope to see a large group in Plant City!
Until next month, stay safe, stay cool (it’s a rule) and KEEP THOSE ROCKETS FIRED UP AND ROLLING!
John
