2025 OCF President John Spinella

Greetings fellow Old’s lovers,

I hope everyone is doing well and trying to stay cool and dry! The heat during the midday is crazy hot, and the mostly late afternoon rainstorms reminds me of the summer weather when I was a kid, you could just set your watch to it. I noticed a small spot on my ceiling after one of our recent monsoons, turns out the nails on the ridge vent needed to be re-caulked…Thanks to George Maniates for recommending a roofer. They fixed me up and inspected the roof and reported that it was in good shape. I was glad to hear his report.

I haven’t been in touch much with the local OCF Members, we’ve talked on the phone a few times. This time of year, there is a lot going on within our hobby throughout the country, and, yes, several of our members are out of town sometimes for weeks traveling to one or more of these events. But, like every other summer, we will soon all be back together and planning future events. I believe we will be at The Plant City Strawberry Classic Show on September 21st. As we have in the past, I will make arrangements for a luncheon and a Club Meeting at the Whistle Stop Café—probably around 1:00.  We should have good parking by getting there early, and we may be able to park as a group. The Car show starts at 3:00.

October 26th brings the 46th annual BOPC! Let’s get geared up for a great show. It will be here before we know it. As usual, we’ll need volunteers and door prizes, so please help out.

I just went through a total knee replacement 6 weeks ago and I’m recovering nicely. Prior to the knee surgery, I had some back problems and still do, but that’s another story. I had to cancel my trip to the OCA Nationals and have not really doing much of anything. The reason I’m telling you this is because I haven’t been physically able to continue the story of getting my 66 Delta 88 (Drunkie the Clown’s old car) up and running again. I hope to get back to it as soon as I’m able to do the work—hopefully sooner rather than later! I’ve been in kind of a funk, but as I’m able to do more, I’m getting back to being my mean ol’ self again! I can tell you that I’m having my 68 442 convertible repainted… again. The paint job that was on it looked great but had some imperfections due to bad prep work by the shop before I purchased the car. My painter knew what the problem was and is repainting the entire car. I can’t wait to get it back; his paint is like you’re looking into a mirror!

I hope everyone stays safe and healthy, get your cars out and enjoy the ride!

That’s about all I have this month, remember to keep those Rockets fired up and rolling!

John
